The village of Picinguaba is situated in the Serra do Mar State Park which was founded in 1977 in order to protect the ‘Mata Atlântica’ (Atlantic Coastal Rainforest),one of the most bio-diverse ecosystem on the Planet.
Even under such protection, the harmonious preservation of both nature and culture in Picinguaba is an ever challenge. So this is why in 2007 the Pousada Picinguaba team decided to create an NGO, called APIS (Ação Picinguaba Sustentável– Acting to make Picinguaba Sustainable), in order to promote the long-term preservation of this extraordinarily place.
